At Turtle Tree we have a diverse team made up of people with many different abilities, some of whom have made seed work their long term vocation. This team includes volunteers who come for a year or two from all over the world, long term volunteers, residents of Camphill Village, and employees.
Current Crew
Peter started working at Turtle Tree after many years as a biodynamic vegetable gardener. He is one of our most meticulous seed cleaners.
Ian is the co-general manager at Turtle Tree, and works with seed cleaning, testing, packing and overall organization. He has a background as a long-time biodynamic farmer and gardener, and has been at Turtle Tree since 2001.
Lia is the co-general manager and garden manager-emeritus at Turtle Tree. She has been with Turtle Tree since 2009.
Asha joined us in 2019 and quietly cleans seed while enjoying the peacefulness.
Joseph joined us in 2020, and is now the Garden Manager. He is a great soccer player and enjoys teaching youngsters soccer skills and playing for Hudson United in his free time.
Bill joined us in 2019 and enjoys all aspects of seed work, both indoors and out, including gardening, seed cleaning and order fulfillment
Finot started at Turtle Tree in 2018 when she moved to Camphill Village. She always comes to work with a cheerful spirit, and keeps the whole crew on track with her strong work ethic and enthusiasm. Finot works both in the gardens and helping to clean seed.
Elizabeth is a former vegetable gardener turned seed cleaner. She has a keen interest in cars and is a part of the village car group that manages our community fleet.
Past Crew Members (a partial list)
Caly was a short-term co-worker who dabbled in the gardens and could more often be found in the Turtle Tree office filling orders, answering e-mails, and assisting with special projects as they came up.
Madelon answered phones, took orders, cleaned seed, assisted with seed testing and helped organize the seed cleaning crew. She worked off and on at Turtle Tree for more than 10 years, and in 2011 began working with us full time. She retired in 2018.
Lisa headed the seed gardens and assisted with seed cleaning. She oversaw the garden crew and the first stages of seed cleaning. She worked at Turtle Tree from 2015 through 2017.
A consummate biodynamic gardener, Dries helped us with germination testing to ensure high quality seeds.
Oliver worked at Turtle Tree in the afternoons, mostly in the gardens, but also worked on seed cleaning in the winter. Oliver left in 2018, and we wish him well in the bakery!
Lissie worked at Turtle Tree for many years, and was one of our finest seed sorters. Lissie had a deep commitment to making sure that the seed that we send out is very clean and beautiful. She was with us in the mornings
Robbie was with us for many years and not only was an excellent weeder and seed cleaner but his warmth and kindness lit up the seed shop and created a mood of reverence and patience that was a true blessing.
Noemi joined us in 2018 and brought her energy and enthusiasm to the garden as well as managing our seed donations, helping with seed cleaning and order fulfillment. She is an energetic team leader.
Jennifer began at Turtle Tree in 2018. She enjoyed the quiet of indoor seed work and also helped with special projects. She worked with us in the afternoons.
Joseph joined the Turtle Tree crew in 2017. He revolutionized our germination testing process and also took on our annual inventory. Joseph’s precision is a real asset to our seed work.
Chris, a long-time baker, joined us in Turtle Tree as his interests had changed. He helped cleaning seed and in the greenhouses
Ilhwa joined us in 2019. She says ” I’m here to color myself with a bit more diverse people and nature. Turtle Tree Seed is giving me a rainbow of colorful memories and experience as colorful as the garden!”
Wanchai joined us in 2019 and is our Biodynamics and Social Agriculture Apprentice, and joins us to learn about growing seeds biodynamically, as well as integrating people of many abilities into agriculture.
Alex joined us in 2019 and enjoys the social aspect of our work.
Lucien, although a passionate woodworker, has joined our team and we greatly appreciate his accuracy and attention to detail in seed packet filling, seed cleaning, and in the garden.
Lindsey worked with us in the afternoon cleaning seeds and enjoying the company of her fellow crew members
Matthias, a trained actor and singer, joined us in 2019. Matthias not only enjoys helping outside in the gardens and greenhouse but also had taken up the role of office manager and answers the phone, ships packages and updates the website alongside some other admin jobs too. We have appreciate his many talents and hard work!
Rosie was a short-term co-worker who joins us in the afternoons. She was a student of the Social Therapy program at Camphill Village, and recently graduated with a degree in sociology from University of Lincoln. Rosie is now back in England, working in events planning.
Rachel was a short-term co-worker from 2017-2019who magnificently took on care of our greenhouse. She brought much knowledge to our gardens and lead crews in transplanting, weeding, harvesting, and processing seed. We are grateful for her dedication to greenhouse watering and care. Her next steps lead her to another eco community, where she continues to thrive.
Sherry worked part time at Turtle Tree, mainly in the gardens, where she particularly enjoys weeding. She is an enthusiastic runner of errands and is a great help in keeping the workshop tidy. Sherry has been with Turtle Tree since 2011.
Rukin worked at Turtle Tree in the afternoons in the gardens spring, summer and fall, then cleaning seed in the winter. He brings a warmth to the seed shop that we all appreciate. Rukin joined us in 2011.
Dominic joined the Turtle Tree crew in 2016. He is faithful at watering the greenhouse, and he’s a great help with heavy lifting in the garden.
Mishka worked at Turtle Tree in the afternoons. She enjoys seed cleaning, making potting mix for our seedlings, and assisting with threshing. Mishka joined us five years ago.
Linda had worked at Turtle Tree since 1997, first as a seed gardener, and now as a seed cleaner in the afternoons.
Andrea was a morning seed shop worker who enjoys seed cleaning as well as tending the gardens.
Lindsey was beginning her second year with us, she works in the afternoons and helps in the gardens and cleaning seed in the winter. Lindsey’s work ethic is an inspiration to the whole team.
Gail had worked at Turtle Tree since it came to Camphill Village in 1998. She cleans seed in the afternoons.
Sheila had worked at Turtle Tree for many years, first as a seed gardener and now as a seed cleaner in the afternoons. We are grateful for her experience and her mentoring of our newer seed savers.
Lizbeth worked at Turtle Tree in the afternoons, mostly helping to clean seed but occasionally assisting in the gardens as well. We remember her with love.
Anne works at Turtle Tree several days a week, she cleans seed and makes sure that tea break is prepared, as well as taking responsibility to see that the tea towels and hand towels are washed regularly. Anne has worked at Turtle Tree for many years, and is the eldest member of our team.
Robbie worked in the garden, is an excellent weeder, and does seed cleaning in the winter. Robbie had been with Turtle Tree since 2013. We remember him with love.
Danny has worked at Turtle Tree since it arrived in Camphill Village in 1998. He works in the gardens and cleaning seed. We value his patience and experience!
Kelly works at Turtle Tree two mornings a week, and enjoys the peacefulness of seed cleaning.
