Blau Gruener Leek Seeds

SOWING
Sow blau gruener leek seeds ~1/4″ deep ~1/2 apart in flats in Feb.-March. Transplant out when approx. pencil size (1/4″ in diameter)
TRANSPLANTING
Transplant ~4″ apart. Place leeks in holes 6″ deep with a dibber and allow rain to fill in the hole around the leek or transplant ~2-3″ deep and hill soil up the sides of stalks for blanching and tenderness of plants.

SOIL REQUIREMENTS
High organic matter. pH 6.2-6.8
PLANT HEIGHT
PLANT SPACING
Transplant 4″ apart OR 2-3″ inches apart and harvest every other for an earlier “small leek” harvest and allow others to stay in the ground and increase in size
HARDINESS ZONES
Hardy. Can handle frost and over winter in some areas.
HARVEST
Loosen up soil around leeks with a digging fork and gently pull leeks out of ground. Rinse off soil and trim top leaves.
Should store for a few weeks if kept very cold but not freezing
